Antenna Types

Antennas can be classified in several ways. One way is the frequency band of operation. These antennas often refer to as GSM antenna, WiFi antenna(including 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz), VHF antenna, UHF antenna, 3G antenna, LTE antenna etc. Although these type of antenna work for different frequency, but they could have the same appearence. Below is a picture of rubber antenna:

As you can see this is an rubber antenna, but you can’t tell it’s working frequency by physical appearance. For this antenna, it can be an GSM antenna, or an WiFi antenna. It also could be an VHF antenna.

So there is an classification fo antenna by is shape (physical appearance). This can category antenna into rubber antenna(like above), Yagi antenna, parabolic antenna, panel antenna, mobile antenna etc. Let’s check one by one as below:

This is a parabolic antenna. It’s often made of aluminium now as repalcement of steel for resistant to rust and lighter weight.

This is an panel antenna.

This is a mobile antenna with magnetic base that attaches to the roof of your car.
